Subject: Bruce Spizer, 'The Beatles Records on Vee-Jay '

Is there any chance that this book will ever be released again? I've seen this going for over $4oo and that's out of my price range. If the book is getting those prices, why not release a second issue?

That's really a question for Bruce, but I know his original intent was that there be a single printing of each book.

The oddest thing is that the Vee Jay book is his least developed. Bruce became such a great researcher throughout the years. His last book, Swan Song, contains more tidbits of unknown information in there than I could list.

But Vee Jay has such a mystique about them that nearly everyone who bought that book has kept it. I still have my copy, and I bought the slipcase that holds it and the Swan book. That book has become almost legendary.

Every now and then, he talks about making a reprint in paperback. Maybe he'll do that one day.

I sent an e-mail to Bruce Spizer asking about printing more copies of this book. This is the response that he sent me.

There are no plans to reprint the Vee-Jay book at this time. Technology has changed so much since the book was printed that we cannot simply reprint the book economically, but would have to incur printing set up costs all over again, driving up the cost. Maybe one day we'll do a second edition, but there are no current plans to do so.

My book "The Beatles Are Coming!" does have extensive information on Vee-Jay and, as you know, details regarding the Vee-Jay vinyl can be found in the price guide.

Last week I actually saw several copies of Bruce's book "The Beatles Are Coming" for sale at Restoration Hardware.

The Bruce Spizer book that is out of print and hard to find for a reasonable price is, "The Beatles Records on Vee-Jay". Most copies that I find around anywhere are going for over $400. I did see one in what they called "acceptable condition" and it was going for over $300. I believe that you can still get all of the other books in that series at Bruce's site.
