Subject: Investments?  (Page 1 of 9)

Hi, Just joined this great forum.I have been collecting a few Beatle albums here and there and have not spent a great deal of $ on these collectables. I think the most i've spent is $167.00 on the 1966 Christmas lp. I have been looking @ prices on ebay for a couple of years and I can't believe some of the prices some of these records are going for.Would you consider these records to be a good investment to make a few dollars on in the future? I usually frame mine and hang them in my man cave to look at. I'm not looking to make big bucks but enjoy looking at them and to maybe sell in the future or pass to my grandson. What would you consider to be possible investments where i didn't have to spend major money? Thanks and keep up this Great forum.

Hey Rick...Welcome....I've been collecting for 25 years and I'm still amazed at the prices that certain piece bring at auction.
I know that when it comes time to liqudate my memorabilia I'll get a lot more than I paid for it...it's been better that the stock market!!! Beatles memorabilia is the holy grail for those who collect rock'n'roll memorabilia.I collect Beatles/John Lennon....

Items that have fetched BIG bucks at auction have been autographs...handwritten material...lyrics..items that were owned or worn or touched or used by any member of the Beatles...Beatle owned clothing...instruments used by members of the band...certain albums..
certain Butcher covers...promo posters and promo items...Beatle toys
...some have fetched world record prices...

Hi Rick,
Welcome to the best Beatles site around. To answer some of your questions and I'm sure alot of people on this forum will agree, some good Beatles investments are promotional records, picture sleeves, demo records, the condition is also a very important part in collecting these records to make some money back they sould be in decent shape. I try to stay away from autographs to many fakes out there unless you know who your buying from or you have some kind of certificate from someone like Perry Cox to back up the autograph. I've bought some Beatles records and made a good profit, example I had a very nice promo copy of Sie Liebt Dich on Swan records I paid $95.00 at a flea market and sold it the following year for $500.00 not a bad profit, it's all a matter of supply and demand. But to me it's like gold it will always go up in value. Good luck and welcome aboard.
Willie

I have a rather large collection of Beatles autographs and handwritten items in my collection...the years are from 1956 thru 1997...I've only done business with Frank Caiazzo..and with Paul Wane from TRACKS in the UK..I've known both of them for over 10 years
Beatles autographs are the most forged on the market today because of their value...I'm pretty good at spotting fakes(thanks to Frank)
...Beatles sigs and handwritten items have done very well..as have most Beatles items...the stumbling block for a lot of collectors is price. There are bargins out there...make sure you do your homework..
that's very important...BUT...if you're looking for a certain item..and you really want it....and you find it...you're going to have to pay for it!!!I've managed to get some really good deals in the last 25 years...good thing...because I don't know if I'd be able to afford some of my stuff if it came up for auction now....Anyone else feel the same way??? Thank for the info.I didn't realize how complicated collecting Beatle records can be. I've been reading a lot from this site and others and you do need to know what your buying with-out getting ripped off. What books are out that will give current values of lp's and info for collecting Beatles and web sites also. Thanks again for the help. rickm

Even common items from the 1960's are good to have in TOP condition. We have an occasional visitor here who is quite well-known for buying the best-condition copies that he can find. Having a rare item is always good, and having a top-grade copy is always good. Then again, having dozens of them isn't bad, either!

It has been said that if you have a GOOD piece of Beatles memorabilia...you can hold onto it..and in 5 years time..sell it...and double your money...
