| [Posted by namralos on 2/26/10 7:05 AM] "High end" items usually have a value of $1000 or more. I have a number of sealed albums, for example. Yet although they are clearly "high grade" copies, they're mostly from the 1970's and 1980's and are not considered "investment" items. Sometimes, the term "blue chip" is borrowed from stocks to apply to other collectibles. These would include Near Mint or better copies of albums like... Introducing the Beatles, stereo ad-back; Meet the Beatles, stereo no-publisher credit; etc.. This category also includes serious rarities (Livingston butcher covers; "the Record that Started Beatlemania" sleeve; WMCA picture sleeve; etc. -- particularly the best-condition copies known to exist. Sealed original 1960's Beatles albums are always desirable, and they are usually lumped in with "investment grade" records, but given the propensity for re-sealing, caution in the market has kept some of the prices down. Slight discolorations, bumped corners, wrinkles, and the like all take away from the "near perfect" status of a high-grade record. Frank Daniels
